Aralia Landscape Architects worked on this concept of a roof terrace that would become a major London destination, providing an iconic British experience. It could become a spill-out/entertaining space for a hotel or restaurant, offering an opulent vintage, classic take on a British contemporary garden. Incorporating a section of an old London bus will allow garden users to socialise within an iconic symbol of London, creating a unique experience. The interior will be inspired by classic vintage London bars with the Aralia contemporary twist. The terrace of the garden is entered via the spiral staircase of the bus, and by the glass doors from the interior space. Dynamic levels within the roof terrace provide both interest and an element of protection, including a terrace of planting and paving woven together, with a nod to Art Deco.
Elegance, sophistication and opulence will abound, with rich velvet coloured planting, set dramatically against lush green foliage, and lifted by creamy white accents. Elements of deep red will be introduced to set the bus into the landscape, together with ‘telephone box seating’ for a novel addition. A reflective pool with a quarter of green leafy trees provides a quieter space to relax, on a more intimate social scale. Dark steel arches frame the views in and out of the terrace, and creates drama and definition to the main entertaining space, whilst the terrace is also fringed by crisp pleached trees.
